Our Love Story
How we met
Hahahahahaha that’s one love story. Nollywood style – We were remote friends on FB for like a year, He was really a snub – so I assumed from afar. He lost his mum early 2016 and I reached out on FB to send my condolences (as we are very close neighbors back home). He was quite formal with his response and really did keep his distance. I was like, this one proud gaaan. It took him 2 months to respond to my message and I had moved on from the wishes. Fast-forward 6 months later, precisely Jan 3rd we ran into each other at his mum’s 1 year remembrance celebration. Pleasantries exchanged and we got into a really long conversation. The rest is history :p
The Journey...
Between January 3rd and Jan 6th, I struck a bond with this new friend – so close that I almost felt I had known him all my life. All the presumptions I had about him all melted away. It was like a miracle. He knew the right things to say, the best resolutions to seeming hard situations and the kindest heart I could ever imagine. Least I forget – he is a shy person and can be very reserved about his intentions. When a man really loves God, it can be annoyingly sweet – I got drawn more and more into this bliss of word, worship and thankful living. He would wake me up every morning with thoughtful/insightful devotionals (as is his norm) and never stop probing how close my relationship with God is. On the other side, he knew how to get the butterflies fluttering in my tummy. I was roped in and I knew I had found the one.
The Proposal
April 19th
Few days to my birthday, unaware that he had let my mum in on his plans – he asked me to visit Lagos for my celebration and this was almost coinciding with my service mobilization. I obliged very unaware of the plot – April 19th (eve of my birthday) we visited the Lekki Conservation Center with few friends – he was practically crying on the canopy walk while I was enjoying myself. Amidst this day-off-work he started getting calls from work and they were really pressing issues (I could tell from his countenance) he got disconnected from the fun, I shrugged it off – he can be a workaholic. Later in the day, we went to church for the mid-week service everything was as normal as ever. Service ended and we playfully chatted about the sermon as we walked out of the cathedral. By the entrance to the church foyer – someone had this beautiful balloon setup – He asked that we get naughty and take pictures with the balloon (I didn’t see the write up on them) I laughed at the silly thought. In split seconds everything changed, my universe narrowed in, I could not understand the fuss and joyous claps around me – I looked beside me and there he was on his knees with a sparkly stone asking me to marry him. If I had super powers, I would have walked through the church walls. As a church boy, he did it the church way and he got a screamy YES.
